Every quarter with your help Alpha Dog Food gives a meaningful donation to a local pet charity. Today we are proud to introduce you to our latest recipient the Search and Rescue Dog Foundation based in Barrington, NJ.
Established in 2005 by legendary K-9 handler Sarah Atlas, the foundation assists volunteer K-9 handlers in the difficult task of replacing dogs that are no longer able to perform search work due to illness, injury, advanced age or death. Sarah was inspired to start the Search and Rescue Dog Foundation when over 700 elementary school children helped her raise money to replace Anna, her k-9 partner. After the attacks on 9/11, Sara and Anna served together at Ground Zero for 10 days straight. Sadly, following their heroic work Anna became ill and passed away shortly there after. Sarah points out that search and rescue personnel are invaluable volunteers.
“They are often ordinary citizens who at moment’s notice, disrupt their lives and many times put themselves in harms way. The government does not financially support them or supply the dogs that have saved lives or brought closure to many families.”
